A Fanlisting;
A fanlisting is a group of people who like something; i.e., a group of people who like Wolves. All a fanlisting is is a list of fans to do with that particular person, item, or object; it joins together people with similar interests.

Pixar and Up;
Pixar are a revolutionary team in the world of animation - they constantly have strived in 3D computer animation, and that success was brought to life in 1995 with Toy Story. Since then, they have produced consistantly excellent films, up-ing the bar after each one.

Up was their feature film during 2009, and told the story of Carl Fredrickson, a seventy-something man who has lost his wife, and never got the chance to do the one thing he promised they'd do - travel to South America, to Paradise Falls. With the prospect of being forced into a retirement village after a misunderstanding, Carl attatches thousands of balloons to his house and sets off to Paradise Falls, along the way meeting Russell and a cast of amazing, wonderful characters.

As an aside, for me, Up is a gorgeous film. I'd recommend it to anyone; it's about spirit and has such a deep meaning that can touch everyone. There's bound to be a character you'll like; there'll be lots of laughs, and lots of tears. But it's a bountiful ride.

Russell;
Russell is a wilderness explorer; his aspiration is to become a senior wilderness explorer, but he has one problem. He needs an 'Assistance to Elderly' badge, which leads him to Carl. Originally Carl tries to get rid of him by telling him about a-made-up Snipe, but Russell later gets caught up in Carl's flyaway house, and becomes part of his journey to Paradise Falls. As they journey to take the house to the falls by walking, the two of them form an almost father-son relationship, and Russell manages to bring out the best in Carl and everyone else around him.

Spoilers from here-on...
We find out that Russell belongs to a single-parent family, as he lives with his mother - his parents are presumably, divorced. He divulges to Carl that he attempts tirelessly to get in contact with his Dad, but he never contacts him back, and thus never gets to see him; even though Russell tries hard, his Dad never shows. It's part of the reason he wants to get his last badge - since at the ceremony, his Dad has to be there to recieve the badge... right?

After Carl betrays Kevin by giving her away, Russell throws away his sash with badges, saying he doesn't need it anymore, and thus resolves to say Kevin on his own. As the film climaxes, he manages everything that he found difficult at the beginning, marking that he's matured, and eventually gets his assistance to elderly badge. But he gets much more than that - he gets Carl's badge from Ellie, his wife, and a lasting relationship with Carl. The film closes with him, Carl, and Dug sitting on a kerb eating ice cream, as he said he used to do with his Dad when he was younger.

Why;
All the characters have a place in my heart in Up, but Russell is... just a wonderful character. He tries so hard to reach out to his dad, but never gets there. He's always positive, and talkative, mind - he's always got a mind of his own and is quite persuasive when he wants to be. The film seems everyone mature, even Russell - he comes to be a better person with being able to do all the 'wilderness explorer' things he practised, and manages to get through to a man who had no one, and become friends with him, giving Carl the family he never had. He's a great character, really, and him having a fanlisting is a must.

Wilderness Explorer;
This is the most uncreative name I could pick, but in the end, I decided to name the fanlisting after what Russell is - a wilderness explorer. There's lots of other things, but I settled with this one. The fanlisting's secondary title is Heart of Gold, in my mind, anyway.
